Situated in the stunning Far North, Kaitaia District Office has a position that's just right for an experienced conservation professional, with excellent technical skills and qualifications, looking for a new opportunity to help conserve some of the world's rarest species and ecosystems.

 

The Kaitaia District contains some of the most diverse ecosystems in New Zealand including the Manawatawhi (Three Kings Islands), Te Paki and North Cape Scientific Reserve.

 

As Senior Ranger Biodiversity you will be working closely with the Operations Manager and the Supervisor Biodiversity to lead the planning of work within the biodiversity programme as well as providing technical advice and support.

 

Key functions of the position include:

 

  • Providing technical biodiversity advice to the Operations Manager, Biodiversity staff and other internal and external parties.
  • Taking a lead role in biodiversity Business Planning and reporting across the district.
  • Overseeing complex technical work on the ground.
  • Assisting the Operations Manager and Biodiversity Supervisor with management of work assignments across the biodiversity programme.

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Relevant experience in conservation management.
  • A tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Conservation Management or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with Iwi and community groups.
  • Proven ability to plan work for self and others efficiently across complex work programmes.
  • An ability to work effectively both as an individual and in a team environment.     

 

At times this position will require you to work in the backcountry, outside normal office hours and away from the Kaitaia Office. 

 

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
