He angitūtanga: About the Role

As an Operations Manager and a senior member of our Regional Leadership team you will be well networked and comfortable working with a cross section of stakeholders throughout our region. You will lead our high performing Whakatane Operations team, delivering quality conservation outcomes whilst supporting partnerships throughout the region.

The work of the team focuses on working alongside our Whānau/Hapū/Iwi and wider community stakeholders, including pest control, biodiversity programmes, the maintenance of camping grounds and public walking tracks.

We are looking for a strong people leader, with exceptional relationship management skills, someone who is inspiring, motivating, and comfortable working with and supporting a highly experienced and dedicated team. The right individual will have proven experience in leading larger teams having the ability to drive a collaborative model as well as driving for operational excellence.

You will be confident to work intimately with whānau/hapū/iwi and have pride in working with the Whakatane community in a local and national context.

Health and safety of staff and visitors to conservation sites is of utmost importance to Te Papa Atawhai/DOC, and this senior role is charged with creating a strong safety-first environment, ensuring there is a positive safety culture and consistent safety practice across all work sites.

The ability to build strong collaborative relationships internally and externally is vital to your success, you will be dedicated to achieving goals and building on conservation efforts in the District.  In many areas, whānau/hapū/iwi and community groups are leading conservation work and these relationships need to be fostered and supported by the Operations Manager.

A level of political astuteness is also required for our Operations Manager, coupled with the ability to identify and provide strategies to manage risk or identify solutions to complex or uncertain situations.
