If the land is well and the sea is well, the people will thrive
At Te Papa Atawhai, Department of Conservation we express our spirit of service and serve Aotearoa through our purpose, Papatūānuku Thrives. Our organisational strategy, Te Kaupapa a Te Papa Atawhai, puts nature and people at the heart of everything we do. It is anchored by te reo Māori and te ao Māori, recognising that Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our whānau, hapū and iwi are central to all our mahi.
He angitūtanga | About the role
As our Ranger, River Restoration you will be joining our wider Operations team as you set out to achieve our Freshwater Stretch Goal – 50 Freshwater Eco-Systems Restored. Our Ranger, River Restoration will involve a broad range of conservation approaches such as habitat restoration, pest control, establishment of water quality or quantity limits, securing legal protection and hydrological restoration.
Your mahi will stretch along the Waipoua River which will require you to be comfortable working outdoors and at times depended to work on your own. This unique opportunity will give you the chance to work closely and manage our relationships with current DOC staff, community groups, scientists, local council and iwi.
An opportunity like this is rare in the department where you will join a tight knit of River Restoration Rangers based across Aotearoa. Though this position is niche, you will also be provided the opportunity to gain support from your local cohort across the district. This position is a 0.7 FTE.
