This is an exciting time for conservation outreach and education. We are looking for a highly motivated person to join our enthusiastic and dedicated team and provide leadership and strategic thinking to help us future proof conservation.


Our team works collaboratively internally and externally to develop and implement national initiatives focused on growing the number of New Zealanders who are aware of, support and actively contribute to conservation. Current initiatives include working across government to advance environmental education; programmes that connect young people and families to nature; providing educators with resources to foster conservation learning and action; and building internal capability in this specialist field.


The successful applicant will play a critical role in developing strategy, partnerships, systems, tools and processes to increase the scale and impact of outreach and education work across the Department and the environmental education sector.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience developing, managing and improving programmes and projects.
  • Delivering and effectively implementing projects
  • Strategic thinking and analysis
  • Excellent relationship skills and a proven ability to work with others to co-design solutions
  • Experience working with tangata whenua
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand education curriculums, education methods and community outreach models, tools and practices.


As well as strong technical skills we are looking for someone who is team focused, has good interpersonal skills and who can contribute positively to our team culture.  


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
