Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa

The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature across Aotearoa. When nature thrives, we all thrive.

Ko tā Te Papa Atawhai he tiaki, he whakarauora anō hoki i te taiao puta noa i Aotearoa. He oranga taiao, he oranga tangata.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We're looking for two passionate and driven Supplier Advisors to join our Procurement Team and help shape how DOC partners with suppliers to support conservation efforts across Aotearoa.

At DOC, procurement is more than just contracts — it's about building strategic, value-driven partnerships that support frontline staff and advance our Treaty commitments. We're operating under a centre-led, category-based model to deliver smarter, more effective services — and we need your expertise to make it happen.

Supplier Advisor – Conservation Services

Help drive biodiversity outcomes through high-impact conservation projects. From remote island pest eradication and species monitoring to cutting-edge tech trials, you'll support procurement that directly protect Aotearoa's unique flora and fauna. This role works closely with scientists, rangers, and planners to ensure ecosystems and species are thriving — from the mountains to the sea.

If you care deeply about nature and want your work to make a tangible difference, this is your chance.

Supplier Advisor – Information Systems & Services (ISS)

Step into the fast-paced world of technology and conservation. In this role, you'll focus on procuring AI, software, and digital solutions that power DOC's technology strategy. You'll be partnering closely with business teams and tech providers to deliver innovative tools that support both people and planet.

If you're tech-savvy, strategic, and excited by purpose-led innovation, we want to hear from you.

Both roles will be focussed on:

  • working closely with the relevant business groups to understand what represents value for money and how other category objectives can be achieved
  • Conducting market research and analysis
  • Advising on procurement strategies and approach-to-market options
  • Shaping value-for-money outcomes in line with category goals
  • Leading supplier performance management and reporting
  • Supporting continuous improvement of procurement processes and tools

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Relevant experience (2+ years) in a similar procurement/ category management role – – knowledge of the Government Procurement Rules would be viewed favourably
  • Strong analytical skills to review complex commercial situations and provide pragmatic solutions to stakeholders
  • Experience in influencing and negotiating with stakeholders, suppliers, and senior managers
  • Experience in managing contractual processes - evidenced by robust contract documentation and sound understanding of contract law
  • Strong relationship building and partnering experience, with ability to work collaboratively with team members and internal & external stakeholders
  • A tertiary qualification or commensurate experience in procurement and/or the commercial sector preferred
  • An understanding of why the Māori Crown relationship is important to DOC

Desirable:

  • Studying towards MCIPS would be a bonus

He aha ngā pāinga mōu? | What's in it for you?
