He angitūtanga | About the role
You'll collaborate with the district staff, Senior Ranger Heritage and Visitors, and Senior Heritage Advisor to develop a strategic work program for delivery as part of a new regional team of delivery experts. Your primary focus will be leading the implementation of funded heritage protection initiatives across the Northern South Island (NSI) District.
As part of a delivery focussed hands-on-team the work will extend beyond strictly heritage projects to include general visitor and capital delivery projects, providing a wide breath on challenging work.
The position will be focussed on:
- carrying out work at place aimed at maintaining or improving the condition of ‘places of heritage work'. This could include:
- undertaking hands-on heritage maintenance work
- supporting baseline recording of heritage assets
- undertaking audits and inventory and data management.
- providing support to the Senior Heritage Advisor with the scoping, planning, and delivery of heritage projects. This could include:
- leading the delivery of funded heritage projects including contractor management, working with consultants, tracking project deliverables and budgets.
- scoping potential future heritage projects, developing business cases and applying for funding
- working with community groups that want to undertake heritage work
- help develop and deliver heritage training initiatives.
- providing support to the districts, Senior Visitor Advisor and Planning and Performance Manager in leading the delivery of a wide range of conservation projects as part of a skilled regional delivery team.

- Knowledge of heritage management practices with experience overseeing operational maintenance.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interpret and apply technical advice.
- Experience in project management.
- The ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Collaborative open and honest approach to dealing with others.
- Strong risk management awareness and a proactive approach to health and safety.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
- A valid full New Zealand driver licence.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the Northern South Island Region.

The salary range for this position is $68,535 to $86,423 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
