He angitūtanga | About the role

This is your opportunity to lead a dynamic team in designing scalable monitoring programs that provide information for impactful decision-making.  In this role, you'll collaborate closely with peers in the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, ensuring seamless project delivery. Your efforts will span the organisation, fostering a deep understanding of the evidence produced.

As the Design and Evaluation Manager, you will lead a geographically dispersed team of highly capable people to design and develop scalable monitoring programmes, tools and capability that make evidence available for evaluation and decision-making to support and influence conservation management across DOC and Aotearoa.

We seek an innovative, people-focused leader, coach, who can motivate teams to work to their full potential. Preferably, you'll possess experience leading geographically dispersed teams. Your familiarity with design and evaluation processes will be invaluable as will be your ability to disseminate scientific, evidenced based advice to a broad audience.

As part of the Design and Evaluation leadership team, you'll apply a strategic, systems- lens to manage diverse workstreams, ensuring transparent and effective prioritisation. Expectations include forecasting demands on your team's time and fostering collaborations with various business groups. You'll also be a strong communicator, with the ability to translate complex scientific information to a broad audience.

• A relevant post-graduate qualification or substantial experience in ecology or related research.
• Demonstrated adeptness in inspiring and guiding passionate experts.
• Strong knowledge in biodiversity, ecology, or environmental science
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills- with the ability to convey complex scientific information into plain English.
• Proficiency in relationship-building and influencing stakeholders.
• A strategic thinker, with the ability to connect the dots across the system to support outcomes.
• Financial management acumen.
• Understanding of the organisation's mission and its contribution to New Zealand's future.
• Proficiency in statistical and evaluation methods.

The salary range for this position is $110,400 - $156,950 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
