  • Would you like to work in a dynamic and truly stunning environment famed for its tramping, biodiversity, and spectacular scenery?
  • Would like to put your skills and experience to use, helping deliver a truly diverse work plan for Visitor and Heritage assets in the Fiordland District?

This is an opportunity for a Senior Ranger to join our team in Te Anau. You will have experience in facility and infrastructure maintenance and enjoy working with a team to deliver a quality experience for our many visitors. The Recreation team in Fiordland looks after a wide variety of visitor assets and historical sites, from the iconic Milford Track through to the remote Astronomers Point historical site in Dusky Sound.

He angitūtanga: About the Role

As a technical lead for the hut and infrastructure portfolio, you will be expected to prioritise, plan, and lead the delivery of that component of the workplan. You will utilise your good communication skills to interact with other Te Papa Atawhai staff, contractors, community groups and the wider public ensuring that work is completed to standard. While you will have no direct staff, you will feed into the work planning process, and give technical direction and advice to staff completing the work. At times, you may have seasonal staff and contractors reporting directly to you.

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for

You might have a trades background or other experience directly related to building and structure management. You will be super organised and practically minded. Technical skills and qualifications are important, and ideally you will hold a Licenced Building Practitioner Qualification but not essential.

The ability to easily engage with a range of different people outside the team such as asset planners, inspectors, delivery planners and senior rangers from other teams, is something that would come naturally to you. You will need to have the critical thinking skills to interpret a range of data and information and translate this into an achievable work plan.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What's in it for you:

An opportunity to live, work and play in the Fiordland district which offers a great lifestyle with tramping, fishing, hunting and many other outdoor pursuits available on the doorstep of this family friendly town.

A fantastic supportive and collaborative working environment. Being the multiple award winner of the most attractive employer in the public sector (and second overall) with an average turnover beyond 10 years, we know people generally really enjoy working with us!

We highly value the new expertise and fresh perspectives brought into the organisation. This is your chance to contribute to our culture of continuous improvement. Te Papa Atawhai is committed to a diverse workforce that represents the communities we serve, and to creating an inclusive workplace culture.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
