An opportunity has arisen in the National Management Accounting team to provide business partnering support to the Partnership Group and their senior leadership team.  The role requires a proactive individual focused on enabling the Group to achieve its strategic, operating and financial goals.  Working closely with the Group, the role will build and lead good financial practice, ensuring robust financial information supports the Groups decision making process.   


As part of a close-knit team you will have the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of functions including business case development, financial modelling, performance reporting, influencing decision making, forecasting and budgeting.  This role will allow you to hone your leadership and engagement skills. 


The Partnership Group's focus is to help protect New Zealand's natural and historic heritage by building alliances and growing conservation efforts with Iwi, communities, local government and commercial partners.  Together they work to deliver restoration programmes for the benefit of biodiversity and recreation to all New Zealanders.


Key role responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic financial analysis and advice to the Group
  • Monitor and analysis performance, prepare internal reports and perform month end management accounting functions
  • To provide support, advice and quality assurance on business cases
  • Perform and support the Department's budgeting requirements, monthly variance reporting, forecasting and baseline updates
  • Provide specialist input to cross functional initiatives / projects / meetings
  • Provide advice for and assist in the preparation of Cabinet papers, briefing papers and responses to OIA and Select Committee requests
  • Develop financial models and improve systems and processes in line with industry best practice


The successful applicant will have:

  • A strong business partnering focus, skilled at identifying and responding to user needs.
  • Proven experience in advising, supporting and engaging with senior leadership teams.
  • Strong team/process planning and co-ordinating skills.
  • Proven problem-solving ability and exceptional communication skills. 
  • The ability to explain financial processes to non-financial managers.
  • A commitment to pro-active service delivery, able to self-manage and to strive for excellence.
  • An accounting qualification and/or relevant senior management accounting experience.


Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
