About us

The Department of Conservation is the central government agency charged with managing New Zealand's natural, historic and cultural heritage on behalf of all New Zealanders. DOC's Information Systems and Services staff help design, deliver and support the technology needed to accomplish DOC's ambitious goals.


The Role

As our next Information Security Advisor, you will communicate with staff to identify and manage threats and incidents that could impact our service delivery or damage the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our information. You will work closely with a range of people including architects, project managers, business analysts, developers and vendors. You will be a trusted advisor who will guide decision makers by providing sound, principled advice on the application of information security standards.


About You

This appointment requires a pragmatic, serviced focused individual with proven experience in communicating complex ideas with clarity and purpose


Specific Skills:

  • Sound understanding of current threats facing IT systems and service delivery, especially for government agencies.
  • Good knowledge of security best-practice and some experience in providing advice on the application and management of security standards and controls
  • Knowledge of the NZISM, PSR, ISO or similar international equivalents is an advantage
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, initiative and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Experience in certification and accreditation in a government environment is desirable
